The endocannabinoid system is a biological molecular system of receptors throughout the brain, central nervous system and the immune system. It regulates and modulates the physiological balance of the mind and body through various biological compounds like endogenous cannabinoids. The two main cannabinoids in the body are anandamide and 2-AG.
Cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD) and terpenes such as beta-caryophyllene interact with the endocannabinoid system to balance the endocannabinoid tone – the overall levels of cannabinoids in the body. When the molecular system is not functioning properly, the body may experience clinical endocannabinoid deficiency syndrome (CEDS).
